Winnow baskets are a traditional rice grain separating tool shaped like a basket and woven from cane. The technique of winnowing involves throwing the mixture into the air so that wind separates the grain from chaff. They are also used in a traditional Zoroastrian engagement ceremony, known as a Mandavsaro, in which rice and flowers are passed between the females of each family during the time a Zoroastrian couple is about to be married.

The sleek form of the basket has been translated to the Winnow Stool. The wide base and cushioning from the woven cane creates a comfortable seating base, while the narrow backrest gives enough required support for leaning back. The cane has been meticulously woven around a sturdy metal grid and takes the form of the basket. The footrest gives added comfort, whilst maintaining a sleek and elegant profile for a lightweight and sturdy stool.
