Trinidad was designed in 1993 by Nanna Ditzel. The chair’s distinctive fan-shaped design made it instantly successful for both home and contract, a status it still enjoys today. The Trinidad is available with or without upholstered seats, and with or without arms, as well as a bar stool version.

All over the Caribbean there are traces from the colonial rule. One example is the Victorian architecture’s elaborate fretsaw wood carvings that break up building facades into light and shadow - called the Gingerbread technique. This was the source of Nanna Ditzel’s inspiration for Trinidad.

Like a Gingerbread facade, the chair plays gently with the sunlight, casting dancing shadows on the floor and walls. As the sun crosses the sky, Trini...dad changes both its own and the room’s appearance in a shadow play that, at one and the same time, makes the chair both transparent and striking.

The lightweight design that gently embraces the body ensures that the chair suits not only the setting, but also the person that sits on it. The screen-shaped shells and slashes ensure sound seating comfort, besides the welcoming impression.

As always, Fredericia Furniture gave Ditzel a free creative rein to work on Trinidad. This really paid off, as the chair was an immediate success for both public venues and private homes, and soon it achieved status as a modern classic.

Meeting Nanna Ditzel led to an irresistible urge to put her furniture in your home. - Partly because of her unparalleled innovative talent, but also in the hope that her personality would have had a contagious effect on your rooms.

Ditzel, who trained as a cabinet maker, was known for her professionalism and sure sense of the needs furniture is expected to meet. At the same time, however, she was renowned for her bold experimental style which won her numerous furniture awards. At an age when most other people have long since retired, the grand old lady of Danish design continued to attract worldwide attention and she welcomed the inspiration that came from new materials and production methods.

Ditzel was reluctant to discuss her current projects, but you could always be sure that the experimental designer had something innovative and spectacular in the pipeline.

‘Three steps forward and two back still means I’ve taken a step in the right direction!’ she used to say.

Materials:
Trinidad is made of a shell in wood and frame in steel. The legs are available in chrome, matte chrome or mono chrome. The wooden shell is available in beech, maple, oak, ash or walnut with lacquered finish. Also the Trinidad barstool is available in a number of striking colours – Black, White, Flamingo, Lotus, Lemon, Thunder, Dusty Blue, Shell, Avocado, Soil, Ice Blue or Lime. Trinidad exists with or without armrests. The version without armrests is stackable. The chair is available with an upholstered seat in fabric or leather. Also available to Trinidad is special glides with or without felt, special couplings (3288) for model 3296, 3298 and for model 3297, 3299, and a transport Trolley (8101), as well as suspensions (8102).
